Been a long time my blogger friends

I have officially been employed by the IRS for six months!!! I can honestly say (besides the 9 weeks in Dallas) this time has FLOWN by! Benjamin is now in baseball again; so usually about 3 days a week we're at the park. Cohen isn't interested in anything but the computer, Wii, and DS....dude needs some sunlight! Bob is still a stay-at-home-hubby which is awesome. The last time I had to cook my own food and do my own laundry was Dallas!! I get to go on another 2-3 week trip in September; rumor is either Cincy or Atlanta. I'm routing for Atlanta just because it's close enough to travel back and forth on the weekend and IKEA ~ need I say more????? Of course, Cincy would allow me to see some old friends on the weekends & (right after we left) THEY got an IKEA!!! So either way, I'm pretty comfortable it would be a good trip.

I have a butt-load of projects for QM; even considered moving my clothing to a shop I'd call Pretty Pretty Princess Boutique (PPPB). Of course, then I'd have to keep up with TWO stores!!!! Ah, decisions, decisions.

Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning...UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, as most of you know, we bought "The Money Pit". The foreclosed house, empty for over a year, with LOTS of potential. Bob and I (yes, you read that right...I love power tools) roofed the house last year. We just recently had all of the beautiful (but messy & dangerous) pine trees removed out front [8 semi truck loads]. Bob gutted the kitchen and is 3/4 the way done tiling the walls with slate. He put our new range hood up (still not working, but up) over the Spring. The furnace and air conditioning are in (still not working), the bathroom needs spackled, taped, and sanded...only THEN can we paint. He recently removed two closets, built a new closet and restructured my sewing room. Needless to say our house is a WRECK!!!!!!!!! I have pics of the renovation on MySpace and Facebook.

Bob's dad has told us on numerous occasions he was planning on coming down to visit. So needless to say, we figured he wouldn't go through with it this time either. SURPRISE...he, his girlfriend and his girlfriend's parents are coming to visit the 29th-31st. So this weekend has been nothing but cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. How do you clean a mid-renovation house????? I really don't think you can. Bob has adopted our future TV room as his "crap room"; filled with all those things that haven't made it to the basement cause we MIGHT need them to finish a project upstairs -- tool boxes, 2x4s, drills, miscellaneous furniture that doesn't have a home, insulation, on and on and on and on. We got the house to a suitable "let people in" mode, but there is still SOOOOOOO much to do. At least the double mattress and boxspring are out of my hallway...they are now in my sewing room where they are going to sleep. Now what are we going to do with the outside we haven't touched in years???? This is really putting a dent into my Happiness Project!!!

Oh, and did I mention I have 2 adult strapless dresses, 1 T-shirt quilt, possibly 1 shower curtain, 1 gown, and 1 banner to do? Not including the reusable sandwich bags I want to get made for website samples!!!

It's only hump day....

Most the time I don't even feel like humping...even if it is hump day!!! Had a migraine last night, in the weirdest spot...right above my left ear. Of all the ones I've had, never there. Thankfully, it's not here today, but I am feeling the leftover effects.

I just got another request for a strapless dress! Just need to get measurements for the two I have and I'll be on my merry way. I also need T-shirts to do the T-shirt quilt and the terry cloth gown is underway! Just a little bit at a time...baby steps!

Have a 7 year-old still wetting the bed...any suggestions?

Cohen is a Mini-Manda & I'm not liking it one bit!!!

I'm forgetting a lot lately, maybe the rheumatologist will find a fix for that in August.

Speaking of August, if you are a prayer soul I need you now more than ever. If not, I need you to cross your fingers. There's a big, life changing event about to occur and with your help, it will happen!!!!!

I finally found the lights I want in the kitchen. They would match perfectly with the multi-colored Fiestaware. They have all sorts of different styles which would make it easy to decorate the entire kitchen/dining combo with peacock feather lights!!!! I also found the Shower I want to install in our Master Bath (someday!).

A day late and $375 short!!!

I put my Singer IZEK sewing machine up for sale about 6 months ago when I decided I was going to get serious about this whole sewing business. I first put it up on Amazon.com which I didn't know you could do until I did it! Then I put it on Craigslist. It was first on both sites for $375. I didn't think that was bad since the only other one I could find was brand new on Amazon for $500! Well, 3 months later there were still no bites, so I relisted it on Craigslist for $150. About a month later I got a taker...well, at that point I thought I had taken it off of Amazon. I guess yesterday proved me wrong. I got a message in my email saying it had sold for $375!!!!!! I searched the internet all over trying to find one that I could buy for cheap and resell to this lady...to no avail. So I had to refund her money to her and let her know she could find it elsewhere for around the same price. WELL, I think I have found my niche...I have a bunch of gently used stuff they sell on Amazon that I'm thinking about listing. One being the John Lennon "Real Love" crib set I bought for Benjamin. We never used the comforter, the sheets are pretty much new since we had to change them so much. Now I'm visualizing my house to figure out what else I can put on Amazon since the BUYER pays the fees!!!! Bob might come home to a completely listed house on Friday after I start on my frenzy! We have so many books (text and otherwise) that we have multiple bookshelves dedicated to them. Guess you know what I'll be doing this weekend...I'm also making bunches of coaster samples & sandwich/snack bag samples to put up on my Etsy site!!!! Pictures to come ;o) HAPPY FIRST OF JULY!!!!!!

Quilted Memories blog has a new location!!!!

Since I'm normally a ranter and raver, I figured I would separate my normal rantings from my "business" ravings. My new blog site for Quilted Memories is http://www.qm4u.wordpress.com/. As I mentioned, this will be a special blog dedicated to all things Quilted Memories. The rest of the family, medical and other stuff will remain here (as the name indicates: Manda's Mind Meltdown!!!). Please join me on my new blog so you can stay up-to-date on the newest, latest and greatest in the world of handmade!!!!

Banners, Banners, Banners

I posted three banners on Etsy this weekend. I just posted my tool rolls on there too for Father's Day. I had wrenches strewn all over the living room over the weekend!!!

I am so excited to see what this week brings. I have a doctor's appointment today, an interview for two positions tomorrow (not holding my breath, there's still a commute), but the BIG thing I'm waiting for is a call from University of Montevallo regarding their Grant Administrator job. This is the one that they've called 2 out of 5 of my references already!!! It would be sooooo nice to be so close to home. My life would be 2 steps away from perfect! Joy and rapture!!!!!!

Ho, ho, hum!

I felt like Cohen wasn't getting enough face-time elsewhere, so here's a pic of him in Bob's sunglasses putting on his seatbelt with a straw in his mouth...At least it was a straw; you never know with him (it's like he's still two!).

Wasn't feeling well last night, so I just surfed the web and hit the sack. I re"faced" my Etsy page, so I guess that was a bit productive.

Ya know this whole "say only positive things" policy I've instituted lately? Well, it seems to be working. I got an email from another reference for the University saying they've heard from them too (2 out of 4 if you're playing at home!!!). I put in a couple applications at a subsidiary of Blue Cross/Blue Shield on Tuesday and the recruiter was emailing me by Wednesday afternoon!!! Of course, I didn't realize til last night when I was surfing the web. She emailed Wednesday & Thursday...so Tuesday at 9am, I'll be interviewing!!!

A friend from the City of Birmingham and I are going out to lunch today ;o) I don't do that often. I usually sleep, work on sewing projects or play the highly addictive solitaire on my new phone!

Going BANNER CRAZY!!!!

I've put a bid on Etsy to do some wholesale work for banners. I am so excited how they've been turning out. The one below is for an Etsy shop she calls "SoftSpoken". She's going to use this one to put up at Craft Shows. I sent her some cards, so maybe I'll get some business from her craft shows!!!!

The boys are doing really good in their respective summer camps (Benjamin - Boys&Girls Club, Cohen - M&Ds, Bob - selling VWs). Hopefully with GM doing its new thing and Bob's dealership being a part of it, all the traffic has to go by Volkswagen, so maybe they'll stop before they get to GM and support our bailout efforts!!!!

How does time pass so fast?

Today is Benjamin's last day of First Grade!!! I feel so old. He had two teachers this year; they are in an L shaped room so they combined two classes. It worked out really well. The other teacher made a DVD for all the kids with tons of pictures from throughout the year set to kid music! It was so great to have it for his future...you know, like the naked butt bath pictures!!!!

Benjamin is SOOOOO excited about going to the Boys & Girls Club this year. He gets to go swimming twice a week, rain or shine at the University. Cohen is excited to be going to Mom & Dad's for the summer. With Bob working in the basement on the furnace all week, he's gotten a bit of a taste for it since she's taken care of him (SPOILED???) It's going to be a logistics nightmare in the morning, but it will be worth it to save the $280/week we would have paid to the Elementary School for summer camp. Bob goes back to work on June 1 (thank goodness); he's such a moody butt lately and I'm sure it's because of Cohen's incessant talking and questions. He's either gifted, ADHD or just plain dumb. He'll look at you with a broom in your hand and ask, "Are you sweeping?" Of course, his Ls sound like Ws, so you're never sure if he said sWeep or sLeep.

Decisions, Decisions...I can't decide if I want to change the name of my business. A majority of my work is not quilts, so I think it's a misnomer when people look at it and pass it by. I am SO much more than quilts!!! Of course, speaking of quilts, I spent most of last night and today finishing the piece to the right. It's a 66" x 87" T-shirt quilt. I know, strange angle for a picture, but I couldn't reach the new tension wire Bob put up in my sewing room and I need pictures quick to send to the buyer. I had to stand on a chair cause I couldn't stand back far enough to get the whole thing in the picture.

So darn happy...

with the way my first banner turned out!!!! This is for Benjamin's teacher's first child. I bought some airplane fabric today to do one for Benjamin and Cohen to match their curtains. I can't wait to see how the rest of them turn out. Tomorrow... is for T-shirt quilts and clergy robes.

Same Monday, Same Crap

I really, really, really didn't want to get out of bed this morning. After the rains this weekend, it got down in the fifties at night. I guess we must not have shut the windows or enough fans off in time cause it was really cold out there this morning...you know, out from underneath the covers.

Benjamin lost his fifth tooth this weekend. The tooth fairy brought him a dollar in his tooth pillow. I need to finish the rest of them so I can get some sold...I hang the pillow on the door instead of putting it under his pillow. Cohen was such a light sleeper, I was always afraid I'd wake him up since they've been sleeping in the same room for a while. Cohen has been preparing for his transition into Nan's house. Bob only has two weeks left before he goes to work, so there's a lot of loose ends to tie up (most of them attached to the furnace and ac!). He's still convinced he's going to turn one before Kindergarten so he doesn't have to go.

I finished my t-shirt quilt top this weekend. I think this one has turned out better than any of the other ones. I also made my first banner...it's for Benjamin's teacher, she's expecting her first child (Caiden) over the summer. It's going to be really nice. I'm finishing it at lunch. Gotta go to Walmart again after work to pick up items to finish the quilt...I'm really going to hate them getting rid of their Fabric Dept. :o(

Christmas in Montevallo yesterday!!!

Not only did our furnace/ac come on a 40' long semi (which will NOT fit anyway up our driveway), but Bob also received his grout gun (a really cool invention that puts the grout in the seams...with all our tiling projects, we needed this YEARS ago). We also go our new upgraded cell phones. OK, I've never thought I could love a material thing, but this phone is like a computer about the size of a business card. Since I'm so losing my mind (thank you Arthur Itis!!), I have my whole life on a flash drive. Now I can keep it on my phone with a back up on my computer. Ahhhhh, technology. The tree guys have taken another two loads of trees (for all of you playing at home that makes 6 loads of trees). So, we'll be getting our check shortly for all the timber...more Christmas!!! And I'm so excited, Mona was at the house yesterday!!!! Apparently she's been there for a week, but with all the boxes and other crap around the house I didn't notice until yesterday, so it just topped off Christmas in May!!!!

Benjamin has four more days of school and excited to beat hell!!!! He is such a social butterfly. Cohen has been back and forth to Nan & Pap's since Bob's been busy with trees and furnaces and grout, OH MY!!! So he's getting pretty spoiled for his next three month stint at the parental units.

I got to fabric shopping yesterday for a couple of new orders (banners...they are going to be SWEET!!!!)...sorry Traci, not rubbing it in :o) I plan to get my T-shirt quilt done this weekend. Since I'm feeling a bit better I haven't been sleeping at lunch...I'm been doing Quilted Memories projects...it almost makes the first 5 hours worth it!!!!

Aw, what will the week bring?

I have decided I will get one of the jobs at University of Montevallo (read: five miles away from the house)! If I believe it, it will happen, right? This will allow me more time with Bob, the boys, and sewing all these projects I have.

I have started on my Memorial/Independence Day projects: Patriotic table runner, napkins, decorated kitchen towels, coasters, and pot holders!!!! I've also been recruited for another clergy cassock. Then of course, I still have Ms. Traci's alterations, skirts and shirt. UGH! I need to make more of my time.

Had a good Mother's Day with two new beautiful flowers and Benjamin's sentiments from school: "My mom is cute! My mom should be mom of the year because she says goodnight when I go to bed. My mom can help me tak out the trash. My mom can help my dad work and help me do my homework! My mom helps me get ready for school. My mom is nice!!" Such a sweetie!!!!

Ah...what's a girl to do????

I got my results back...arthritis and more inflammation - NO cancer, rheumatoid arthritis or lupus. I'll get more on drugs, specific diagnosis (over 100 kinds of arthritis out there), and prognosis. I'm on my doctor enforced diet (lost 3 pounds in a little over a week!).

This is Bob's last month at home. We are expected to order our furnace/AC this week!!! He got our new range hood hung in the kitchen...looks so awesome!

Benjamin is enjoying baseball. His class is having a Mother's Day Tea on Friday at school :o) Benjamin will be going to the new Boys & Girls Club in Montevallo this summer for $125!!!!! For the WHOLE summer!!!! There were 50 spots (ages 7-12)...he gets to go swimming at the University pool two days a week.

Cohen is still Cohen...he's decided he's not going to Kindergarten. He's going to turn one again. How do explain to a five year old that doesn't work??? Cohen is staying with my mom and dad this summer, Benjamin was too until the deal of the summer came around...he's my social butterfly, he wouldn't have been happy with just Nan, Pap and Cohen for company.

I'm still busy with Quilted Memories projects. To the right is Mona...she's my new model!!! Got a great deal on eBay. I never imagined myself in the clothing business, but I'm doing pretty good since I'm working without patterns. I'm still doing my traditional stuff...one of the newest suggestions has been shower curtains. One of my color combos on the left. I have to actually get cracking and make my 72"x72" curtain. I'm also doing patriotic coasters & pot holders for Memorial/Independence Day. I'm also trying to get Tool Rolls started for Father's Day...yeah, I'm a little busy...this darn full-time job is getting in the way of the fun!!!!!!!!

So many things, so little time...

Working full-time (and driving 1+ hours to get there and home), trying to grow a sewing business (www.quiltedmemories4u.etsy.com), trying to be a mom to two children that act exactly like their mom and dad, and at this point with Bob home, I don't even try to be a wife.

I realized long ago that I am NOT SuperWoman or SuperMom, even though I still try. It's like beating a dead horse, but I just can't get out of my mind that I can do all things woman...clean, cook, teach, mentor, taxi, fornicate, make happy, sleep, sew, satisfy, and on and on and on and on and on. I think my body has given up on this marathon, but my mind is still in the race. Even on drugs I get depressed very easily, but then there are days that nothing can stop me (but my hurting body).

I realize I am evil. I don't have thoughts as others have (however, Bob and Mom are close 2nds!!). I don't look at the world as others do...I'm not Godly, or even spiritual at the moment, I don't have time for that crap. I guess I just take responsibility for my own actions, figure you're going to die whenever the timer goes off, and if you don't like something about yourself, change it. I kinda like being the curly-headed, goth, black humor, off-the-wall, unknown, girl from Cowtown that has a way of corrupting even the best people. I don't fit in anywhere, except on House & Roseanne. Except, I just feel they exploit the personality for comedic entertainment for those who don't (or don't want to) understand people like me. People use these as "feel good" shows; you know like watching "Jon & Kate Plus 8" and thinking...OK, my life can be sooooo much worse, I can handle this. It's the days when you think...OK, I don't want to handle this anymore that become more demanding.

I hear myself keep repeating a portion of a book I used to read to the boys: Sometimes I like to curl up in a ball, so no one can see because I am so small. When the day ends and the sun starts to fall, I do what I do best of all, I find somewhere soft, somewhere cozy and small. And that's where I like to curl up in a ball.

Bitch, whine, complain and grumble...

I get in a bitchy mood when it's going to rain. My body feels it days before it actually shows up and then a couple days after it's gone. All week it has rained off and on so there has been no reprieve. The southern most school didn't even have school today and Benjamin's is cancelling all after school activities. We're supposed to be in for tornados and crap around 4....Yippee, maybe it'll take the house and I can be over the rainbow too!!! There's no place like home, ya know!

<----The clergy robe I'm making.

I have sold my sewing machine to a girl that doesn't even know what a bobbin is...yes, she admitted this to me! What you say...crazy girl sold her sewing machine and has projects on backlog...no worries my friends, I have placed an order for my new embroidery/sewing machine!!! As I type, Bob and my dad are ripping a wall out of my sewing room...and building another one. Yeah, sounds crazy, but you know me....anything in the name of progress (and me getting a bigger slice of the house). I'm very limited in what I'm allowed to touch in the house...even Bob's doing MY sewing room. I guess I better get used to being the only girl in the house...doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon....unless of course, Cohen doesn't quit screaching like an owl everytime he seems Barbie as Thumbelina and the Diamond Castle. Hey, it runs in the family; he'll find us a good son-in-law....Damn, then I'll be even lower on the girl totem pole!

The Sorority Quilt I finally finished ----------->

Next week we sign Cohen up for Kindergarten......YEAH, FREE DAYCARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the definite kabosh on getting a girl. Don't think I can live with more daycare payments & I sure as crap and NOT a stay-at-home mom type of gal. Guess Bob could continuing being a stay-at-home dad...he might actually like it if Cohen wasn't home. I believe we're going to have to start spreading Benjamin's ADHD meds over his cereal in the mornings....I have NEVER seen a child that can talk like that one.

Sorority Sister Props!!!!

One of my sorority sisters (and pledge sisters) is active in Etsy...OK, more active than I am; she got me started Etsy-ing. Anyway, Ms. Traci (T and Little S Designs) is holding a giveaway. Hurry to http://monkeytreecreations.blogspot.com/ before April 6 (when she gets back from her CRUISE!). She's giving away a custom made...HELLO!!! Custom-made, nobody does that anymore...banner!!!! Come on over and give my sorority sister some props and get in on a good chance to win some swinging booty from Traci....OK, get your mind of the gutter!!!!!

Getting a little more "official"

Well, my labels have arrived!!! The first two have gone on lovely clothing I made for a friend in Ohio. And last night, after doing our taxes, we are getting back more money than we thought!!! So I will probably be purchasing that Brother SE-350 Embroidery & Sewing machine very shortly (oh and that little thing called a FURNACE & AC!!!!!). I will be able to embroider names, make pictures, etc. What out Martha Stewart...Amanda Sharp is on your tail!!!! Bob just called to say he found the cartridge for my IZEK, so I might be selling it to the lady that kept hounding me to take it down to $100!

Don't see us having a baseball game tonight after the 3-6" of rain we got yesterday, but if we do I'll be taking my Spotted Box project (looks like it won't be til at least May now) or if we stay home, I will finish the sorority quilt and get it in the mail!!!! Then off to making more dressing, jackets, and the clergy robe OH MY!!! I'm so excited my business is finally starting to take off. I'm considering asking a local owner of Royal Duchess (http://www.royalduchessclothing.com/) to see if she'd be interested in taking some orders.

Howdy ho from the state of pollen...

Yes, it's that time of year again...we get to play in the pollen falling off the pine trees. Ohioans may not understand this because I had never seen anything like this before, but EVERYTHING gets covered in this fine mist of yellow pollen. Poor Bob's going to be blowing his nose every three minutes for a couple weeks.

NEW Rheumatologist: I have an appointment with my new one at 1:15 on April 14!!! Of course, you know it's bad when they tell you to call before the appointment to see what time you should ACTUALLY be there since she is habitual runner-over. So, it will probably be at 3...Next time I'll make sure to have a morning appointment. But I'm sooooooo excited; I heard about this lady from a gal at work. The doctor is really excited about "weird" diseases, etc. So I should be her entertainment for a while. I made the mistake of actually writing down all the medications I've tried, the syndromes/diseases I've been diagnosed with, surgeries I've had, and symptoms I have and how often. I was SHOCKED!!!!!!!!! I think they might need to check me for hypocondria. I was pissed to find out that the two doctors my GP sent me to weren't certified by the American Rheumatology Association; HELLO!!!!! We need to find out what's going on and you're going to send me to the Shot Nazis just because they are "in your hospital network"? UGH...I thought I was over that already.

Trip to Ohio: I had such a good time with my bestest friends in the world. I got to see Becky get her Outstanding Woman of Clinton County Award. I also got to see my Greg & Sheryl...oh, and I can't forget the ten doggies over the weekend!!!! I remember now why I like dogs so much - People don't look at you funny if you have a dog in a cage!!! The boys were actually really good on the trip up and back. I slept most of the way, but they were amazingly quiet and sane. Not either of which we get often (or often enough).

Etsy: I got soooooo much done yesterday. I sewed two strapless dresses and one top. I still have to finish my sorority quilt by Thursday, but I don't see a problem with that...Then I have a clergy robe (yeah, the Anti-Christ making anything that has to do with church - Hey, I take Godly money too), two strapless dresses and two jackets along with an order of four more t-shirt quilts (possibly seven)!!

Birthday: Ok, Sunday was the birthday...we were driving home from Ohio most of it. I don't know how 32 is going to effect me yet, but so far, so good. Guess it's just like any other day anymore. The boys made me a gigantic card from folded poster board...Bob got me some Miracle Grow & pots for my roses and a pedicure!!! Guess he knows if I feel good, he's more likely to get laid!!!

Ho, ho, hum!!!!

I'm in the middle of a religious debate with a pastor...see the point in this??? Yeah, I don't either. But I'm not one to quit or not give my two cents.

Well, Benjamin's been rained out of his Opening Day and going to miss the make up since we'll be in Ohio. Looks like we're going to have practice cancelled tonight as well.

I have my first staff meeting in 45 minutes, that should be a blast.

Went to the dr yesterday. Apparently I'm not taking in enough fluids for a normal person, but I am also on a diuretic, so that's makes it even worse. Dehydration is making me miserable. Gotta find a new rheumatologist to do x-rays of my neck and spine.

Etsy is going well for me. I just completed one T-shirt quilt with another close behind. I have been drafted (and loving it) to make dresses, skirts, and shirts for my bestie, Traci. Of course, I've sold more already!!! Oh, yeah, and the pastor I'm in the debate with...I'm making him a clergy robe for him to preach in....Guess the Anti-Christ is fine as long as they're functional, huh? I've been learning how to make banners via some free software on the internet, so my Etsy shop has a couple different looking banners now...www.quiltedmemories4u.etsy.com.

Friday we're leaving for Ohio. Bob's dropping me off at my friend, Becky's...she's getting the Outstanding Woman award for Clinton County due to her work with the Humane Society...which I still do the books for...and I get to see Sheryl; she's my sounding board and usually a pretty good one that keeps me out of trouble.

My Stalkers
